Kids At Their Best partners with Equal Heart (AmeriCorps) to host 35–50 summer members and up to 10 full-time, year-round members across the Eastern Plains. Members receive a biweekly living allowance and an education award at the end of their service term.

AmeriCorps members in the summer serve at our meal sites and participate in community service while school is out. Their service focuses on supporting public health outreach and food access during the month where resources may be limited and families need it most.

Our full-time members serve year round (approximately 4–10 members) and are placed across counties in Eastern Colorado. During their term, they contribute to community engagement projects like pantry operations, summer meal program planning, and other public health measures that strengthen local resources.

Our summer AmeriCorp positions are minimum time slots, with a requirement of 300 hours within a 10 week timeframe (typically the last week of May to the first week of August).

What is AmeriCorps?

AmeriCorps is a national service program where members serve their communities. As an AmeriCorps member placed with KATB, you will receive a living allowance, gain hands-on experience, and earn an education award upon completing your service.

How many positions are you hiring for?

The number of positions fluctuates depending on available funding. Currently, we are looking to hire:

  • 20 AmeriCorps members
  • 20 Summer BLAST staff
  • 35 STEMventures staff

These numbers are only for Morgan County and do not include staffing needs for satellite sites in other counties

What are the differences between the available positions?

The levels of responsibility vary between positions, and the tasks and duties differ for each program.

How long does the position last?

  • AmeriCorps positions: May 26, 2026 – July 31, 2026
  • Summer BLAST: June 8, 2026 – July 24, 2026
  • STEMventures: June 8, 2026 – July 24, 2026 (week of June 29 – July 3 off)

Can I rollover if I am a current STEMventures employee and want to work STEMventures this summer?/ Can I rollover as a STEMventures summer employee to the Fall term?

Rolling over allows you to continue without reapplying and reinterviewing. You may request to roll over, but final approval is at the discretion of the After School Coordinator.

How much of my time will I spend outdoors?

  • AmeriCorps members: ~70% outdoors, ~30% indoors
  • Summer BLAST employees: 100% outdoors (approx. 3 hours/day)
  • STEMventures employees: ~50% outdoors, remainder indoors for activities

When will I be notified if I am selected for the position?

All applicants will receive a decision by May 22, 2026.

How soon will I hear back after submitting my application?

Interviews begin April 6, 2026.

  • If you apply before April 6, you will hear back about a week prior to interviews.
  • If you apply after April 6, you will hear back within one week.

Can I apply to work for both Summer BLAST and STEMventures?

No. Due to overlapping schedules, you can only work in one program.

Will training be provided for this position?

Yes. Training is mandatory and will take place June 1 – 5, 2026.

  • June 1–3: 8-hour training days
  • June 4–5: shorter training sessions

Specific times and details will be provided to those hired.

Can I still apply if I am unable to attend the mandatory training?

  • If you can only miss a few hours, you are still encouraged to apply.
  • If you will miss more than half a day, we recommend applying at a later time.
  • If you have unique circumstances, please visit our office in person before applying to discuss.
