Afterschool & Out-of-School Meals
STEMventures recognizes that students learn best when their nutritional needs are met. As part of our Out of School Time programming, we intentionally integrate food access, nutrition education, and hands-on learning into our after school experience.
Nutrition within STEMventures is not separate from academics, it is purposefully embedded into instruction to support the whole child.
Nutritious Meals & Snacks
Students receive scheduled snacks and a structured meal component designed to:
- Support focus and sustained engagement
- Promote healthy eating habits
- Reduce food insecurity barriers
- Reinforce independence and practical life skills
All meal services operate within established supervision, safety, and compliance guidelines.
Monday STEM Meal Lab
Every Monday, students participate in a STEM-integrated meal experience that combines nutrition with academic skill development.
During this structured session, students:
- Measure ingredients using precise mathematical calculations
- Apply fractions, ratios, and conversions
- Follow multi-step procedural directions
- Practice safe food handling techniques
- Strengthen fine motor skills through cutting and portioning
- Observe scientific cause-and-effect during preparation
This applied model reinforces math, literacy, executive functioning, and real-world application while providing a nutritious meal.
Nutrition as Academic Reinforcement
