KATB’s summer program, which launched in 2006, sprang from the need to feed hungry children in the summer months when school meals were no longer available. Hungry kids cannot learn or play, and today nutritious, enjoyable meals are at the heart of everything we do.
Food distribution extends far beyond our summer program as KATB has the community connections to quickly mobilize in times of urgent need, like the current pandemic. Since March 2020, we have been delivering food to individuals and families impacted by COVID 19.
No-one should go hungry in a country blessed with plenty, and no-one, especially children, should be stigmatized by poverty. KATB takes food into the neighborhoods of greatest need, encouraging people to choose what they enjoy. Living in a rural area is no guarantee of easy access to affordable fresh fruits and vegetables, and we work with local farmers to share the bounty of the Eastern Plains.
